HOW TO USE testCommanderNet

testCommanderNet consists of two separate programs:
Server: installed on a central server computer, and
Client: installed on machines where tests are to be conducted.
It is very quick and easy to author and administer quizs or tests using testCommanderNet. Follow the steps below to install, author, set test properties, register test takers and administer tests using testCommanderNet.
INSTALLATION - CLIENT
* Install Client and Server on separate computers.
1. Download testCommander Client.(FREE)
2. Install it on your computer by double clicking the file.
3. During installation you will be prompted to enter network address or name, enter the network address (e.g., 206.191.22.19) of the computer on which you will install testCommanderNet Server (see INSTALLATION - SERVER below). You can obtain this by going to the server computer and entering winipcfg (Win 95/98) or ipconfig (Win NT and Win 2000) on the DOS prompt. It is essentail that you enter this accurately
4. Click finish.
5. Client is now installed on your computer.
6. Launch the client doing Start->Programs->testCommanderClient.
INSTALLATION - SERVER
A Windows (95/98/NT/2000/XP) computer with ample disk space and memory (250 mega bytes or more) is recommended.

2. Download and unzip the program (a download link and password will be emailed to your promptly once you finalize your purchase) by double clicking on it. This is a self extracting file, it does not require special programs (e.g., Winzip) to unzip.
3. You will be prompted to enter a password to open the file. Enter the password that has been supplied to you by email when you purchased the program. Click OK.
4. On the next screen click OK again.
5. Click the button with a computer image on it.
6. Click OK.
The server has been installed successfully. A program called Remote Automation Management will be visible under your Windows programs. It contains two more sub-menus called Automation Manager and RemAuto Connection Manager.
The next task is to configure the server to listen to client connections. Follow the steps below.
SERVER CONFIGURATION
1. Click Start->Programs->Remote Automation Management->RemAuto Connection Manager.
2. On the following screen you will see a list of items open on the left hand box under Com Classes.
3. Find TestEngProj.TestEngcls1 and select it by clicking. Then click the Client Access on the right and change Disallow All Remote Creates to Allow All Remote Creates.
4. Close the Window by clicking on the X at the top right hand corner.
Server configuration has been completed. It is now time to launch the server so that it starts responding to client requests.
LAUNCHING THE SERVER
1. Click Start->Programs->Remote Automation Management->Automation Manager.
2. A small popup window will appear and will minimize itself on the taskbar. It is imperative that you keep this small popup window on all the time for the program to keep listening to requests from clients.
3. Your server is now up and running and waiting for connections from clients.
AUTHORING A TEST (QUIZ)
Once client is launched, follow these steps to connect to server and author a test:
1. Double click on the orange title which says testCommanderNet
2. This will open another window which prompts you for login name, password and author number. Enter
Login Name: Administrator
Password: adminpass
Author Number: 2222222
3. Once you supply these, testCommanderClient will contact the server to validate the entries. If successful, the List of Tests window will open. The window will not list any if you haven't created any quizs yet, otherwise it will list all the tests you have created with their test numbers. Note that an author can see his/her tests only.
4. To create a test, click on Add New. You will be prompted to enter test name and test number. Test number should be a seven digit number.
5. Once the test is created, select the test and click on Edit. This will open the TestBuilder window where you will enter your questions, choices, right answers and a remark.
6. To start entering questions, click on Add New. Then type your question and choices in the text boxes. All the boxes have to be filled in properly.
7. To enter a question with two answers (check boxes), fill in all boxes and enter the two right answers (e.g., BD) in the answer box.
8. To enter a question with one answer (radio buttons), fill in all boxes and enter one right answer (e.g., C) in the answer box.
9. To enter a True false question put one hyphen in each of the choice boxes and a T or F in the answer box.
10. To enter an exhibit (create the exhibit using a graphics program of your choice first) click on the InsertImage button, select the file and hit OK. The exhibit (image) will be embedded with that question.
11. At the completion of each question entry click Save.
12. Repeat this process (Add New, enter question, Save) until your quiz is complete.
13. To edit a question, click on Edit when the question is displayed and make the desired correction and click Save.
SETTING TEST PROPERTIES
Test properties refer to passing score, total score, allowed time and whether the test is locked or unlocked. Once you have completed entering your test, follow these steps to set its properties:
1. If you just finished entering the test, click on Cancel from the Test Builder window. You will return to the List of Tests Winodw.
2. Click on Properties button. This will open the Test Properties window. To add the properties of your test click on Add New button under frame which says test Properties.
3. Enter test Name (exact spelling), passing score, total score and allowed time. Click on the Lock/Unlock check box to check or uncheck depending on whether you want the test to be accessible.
4. Click on Save.
5. Repeat the process for as many tests as you have.
6. To edit test properties, click on Edit when a test is visible in the test boxes. Make the desired changes and click on Save.
ADMINISTERING A TEST
Once you have created and set the properties for a test, your test is ready to be administered. Administer your test following these steps:
1.Supply test takers the seven digit test number
2. Register the test taker by assigning a login name, password and test number.
3. Once these have been done the test taker can launch testCommanderNet client and supply these information at the Welcome to testCommanderNet window and click Continue.
4. The List of Tests window will be displayed.
5. The test taker will either double click on the displayed test or select it and click on Start.
6. A page with instructions on how to complete the test will be displayed.
7. Click on Start
8. The first question will be displayed. Read question, select answer and click Next. YOu can click back and forth as desired.
9. To view your answers, click on Answers. This will launch the Your Answers window which displays the answers in a tabular format.
10. To complete the test, click Finish.
