WHY COMPUTERIZED TESTING?

Computerized testing has distinct advantages over traditional paper-based tests. These include:

Scheduling: because tests are always on the computer students can take them at the time of their convenience with minimum set-up time for the test administrator. Students who missed out on tests for various reasons can therefore be accomodated easily.

Feedback: since most computerized tests provide instantaneous feedback of results students get ample time to make plans for other courses or tests.

Efficiency: computerized tests eliminate the need for marking papers. As a result, teachers become more efficient by spending less time on marking and focus their attention on more productive work such as lesson plans.

Cost Saving: Traditional paper-based tests consume large volumes of paper and other supplies such as ink. Particularly in places where computer networks already exist, significant savings can be made over the long run by conducting tests on the computer.

Distance: with computerized testing distance almost becomes a non issue. From Where ever the client software can be installed tests can be administered with minimum supervision.

Score reporting to third parties: where score reporting is required by third parties, scores could be sent electronically without delay. This could facilitate the timely decisions for candidates whose applications are pending.

Objectivity:Computerized testing and evaluation is free from any biases that might creep in manual testing and evaluation. This particularly applies to subjective tests but might also apply to computerized testing where fill in the blanks is involved.
