WSIS (Web Score Information System) Commander

With WSIS, you can administer secure (password protected) online tests.

Do the following: publish your tests for the web (select the "Secure" checkbox and click "Publish for Web") using testCommander V.5 and upload them to your web site. Once you do this, as the administrator of WSIS, you will be able to do the following:

  • Create accounts for your students. Accounts can be edited or deleted any time.
  • Set registration and expiry dates on accounts.
  • Register students for a test. After they login, students will view the test(s) for which they have been registered. Registrations can be edited or deleted any time.
  • Set registration dates and expiry dates on test registrations.
  • Review accounts and test registrations easily.
  • Save test scores on the database.
  • Save test answers (answers supplied by student to individual questions) on the database.
  • Obtain student score reports from online database.
  • Perform item and statistical analysis (average, mode, median, easiest question/hardest question(s) etc.) on test scores and questions.

WSIS Commander uses the same database that comes with testCommander V.5 (FREE VERSION)

All you need to do is upload the database and your web-published tests to your web site. WSIS will capture all student score details into the database and will enable you to perform score reporting and statistical and item analysis. It will also forward a score report to your email address whenever a student completes a test.

A. Yes. After you administer an online test the scores and answers of each student are saved in a database.

Q. How can I make WSIS operational on my web site?
A. Making WSIS operational on your web site is merely uploading tests and WSIS files. Follow these steps:

  1. Author a test using testCommander v. 5 (it is FREE for non-commercial personal use). Authoring a test is very simple, you just need to hit the "Add New" button, type in your question and then click the "Save" button.
  2. Publish your test for the web using the program. You just need to hit the "Publish for Web" button.
  3. TestCommander prepares the test file, answers' file and tests.html file for you in the default testCommander directory (generally C:\Program Files\testCommander) for non-secure tests and SecureTest directory (C:\Program Files\testCommander\SecureTest\) for non-secure tests. Grab these files and your test database and upload them to your web site.
  4. Purchase WSIS and upload it in the same folder as your tests on your web site.
  5. Administer your test (i.e., tell students the address of your tests (tests.html for non-secure and wsislogin.asp for secure) - on your web site) online.
  6. Access student scores by logging into WSIS as administrator and perform all the functionalities described in the previous question. The url will be http://(name of your web site)/any other folders where you put WSIS)/wsislogin.asp.

Q. What are the requirements to use WSIS on my web site?
A. Your web site should support Acitive Server Pages (asp) and MS Access database. To receive score reports in your email your web site should support Micorsofts SMTP (also known as CDONTS or CDOSys). These functionalities are available on Windows based web hosting services.

Q. Do tests have to be authored online (i.e., over the web)?
A. No, tests are authored offline using testCommander and then published for online (i.e., web) testing and grading. Preparing a test for the web is a mere click of a button.

Q. What does WSIS exactly do?
A. It does the following functions:

  • Authenticate (ask for login and password) test takers.

  • Grade test and provide instant score reports to students.
  • Email score reports to test administrators.
  • Save student scores to a database.
  • Save all student answers (i.e., the answer to every question) to a database.
  • Allow administrator to browse and delete old scores and answers.
  • Provide administrator with search criteria (test name, test date, student name...) to obtain student score reports and student answer reports.
  • Provide administrator with various statistical measures (mean, mode, median, range) on student scores.
  • Provide reports of top scorers and low scorers.
  • Enable item analysis on tests by listing test questions by their level of difficulty (or ease), i.e., how many students got each question in a test wrong or right.

Q. Is WSIS secure?
A. Yes. Only test administrators and authenticated test takers can access WSIS Commander..

Q. How can I purchase the WSIS application?
A. You can download the application for only $22.89 USD. A download link and password will be emailed to you as soon as your payment has been verified. Grab the files and upload them to your web site.
